DAYTON, Ohio – Producing slick sounds and memorable vocals are goals for anyone in the music industry. For Darkchild Entertainment’s C.E.O. Rodney Jerkins and his crew of songwriters, producers and mix engineers, it’s an art. Jerkins, aka “Darkchild” and his team have worked with a lengthy list of multi-talented artists, including Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Kirk Franklin and TLC. For Jerkins and his team, 2010 is about releasing mind-blowing music and celebrating with fans worldwide.
According to Darkchild Entertainment’s Social Media Marketer Monique Kim, Jerkins and his crew consider fans to be part of the team. Still, they wanted to give supporters an official role. April 15, Jerkins expanded his crew of hit-makers and created Team Darkchild, where fans everywhere can join the lineup and help promote upcoming artists. “Rodney appreciates all of his fans around the world,” Kim said. “He wanted to be able to connect with them and build a Darkchild community.” According to Kim, fans inspire Jerkins crew. “It’s all about love at Team Darkchild,” she said.
When joining, members have the opportunity to work directly with Jerkins by promoting spanking new Darkchild artists. In addition to promoting the newest tracks, members have multiple chances to earn points to help themselves win gifts. “Team members will be eligible to win cool prizes such as first listens to new music, exclusive news about Darkchild, and even a trip to Darkchild studios to meet the man himself,” Kim said. Points can be earned by creating Web site traffic to the official team page, getting other fans to join and giving Darkchild artists feedback.
Team Darkchild’s online networks, such as Facebook and Twitter, do not require fans to be part of the team when joining the sites. However, the social networks give members a chance to get to know each other and work together. The official Facebook offers exclusive quotes, music videos, news and fan polls. If that’s not enough, supporters have the opportunity to chat with over 450 followers. “Members can make posts for all to see and also interact with each other right on our page,” she said.
Team Darkchild’s Twitter is active daily with over three thousand followers. When following, “members [can receive] exciting news hot off the press,” she said.
Though Team Darkchild is new, plenty of news and exclusives exist to start promoting. Darkchild’s upcoming group Purple Reign (Latoya Duggan, Victoria McCants and Siobhan McNear) and artist Tiffany Dunn are working on their debut albums. The new artist H*Wood is fresh out of the studio and hitting radio stations hard with his debut single “Could it be You (Punk Rock Chick).” Members will receive specific updates about these artists and others working with Darkchild Entertainment when joining the team.
Communicating with fans is something everyone at Darkchild strives to do. For Kim, interacting with them contributes to her passion for working. “The coolest part about my job is I get to connect with fans who love Darkchild’s work as much as I do,” she said. “We went from zero to over three thousand followers on Twitter in a matter of three months. It’s truly a team effort.”
She said Jerkins is grateful for his fans and wants them to know they play a crucial role on the team. “Darkchild songs wouldn’t be hits without the help of fans spreading the word and buying our music,” she said. According to her, fans inspire Jerkins and his crew to strive for excellence.
Since April, news about Team Darkchild has spread. According to Kim, Jerkins and his crew are hopeful for a promising year. “None of this would be possible without the efforts of Team Darkchild,” she said. “Thank you to everyone for all [of] your love, support and hard work.
