Bathroom Exhaust Fan Venting

Bathroom exhaust fan?

On Wednesday my friend will be taking photos of me with a cigarette, its smoke, etc…

But he wanted to be able to do it inside so he could use his lights and his backdrop. So we decided the bathroom would be the place to take these photos since he’ll just turn on his bathroom vent and the smell won’t stick around. His bathroom is connected to his bedroom.

Where does the smell go? Outside, or just evenly dispersed throughout your house? Any other tips on how we could get the smell to clear out and not cause the rest of his apartment or bedroom to reek? Will air freshener be helpful?

The fan exuasts either in the attic or outside depending on how it was installed. Close the door and put towels under it to keep smoke in the bathroom only, smoke shops sell non-tobacco ciggaretes look like real thing just a better aroma, smell from cigarette if you use one can be masked pretty easy with air freshner or incense,

Nuisance Illinois Raccoon Removal Q & A

Nuisance Illinois Raccoon Removal

Illinois nuisance Raccoons, behind coyotes are our most dangerous problem wildlife species to humans. Raccoon having such a high level of intelligence, persistence and strength can boar their way through almost anything and cause bodily harm or disease transfer. Raccoon removal in Illinois has become a growing need in the past years. In a recent survey, raccoon control in Illinois has almost doubled. How to trap raccoons in Illinois, how to get rid of Illinois raccoons or how to deter raccoons is all covered in the FAQ below. This has been comprised of the most popular questions by our clients.

• Where do Illinois nuisance raccoon enter homes? What areas on my home are vulnerable to raccoon entry?

Here a raccoon chewed right through a vent to get inside

Illinois problem raccoons are masters at gaining home and garage access. The most common raccoon entry points on Illinois homes or garages are under decks, stoops, through attic fans, attic vents, peak vents, soffits and holes chewed right through the roof. Raccoons gain entry to all of these with relative ease, gaining entry within seconds, all except for the raccoons that chewed through the roof. This takes   a little longer however not as long as you’d think considering they find rotted areas that are weak. Chimneys are also another area that raccoons love to take up residence in and have their litters of young.

• When are problem raccoons in Illinois most active? How do you know if an attic noise is a squirrel or raccoon?

Illinois nuisance raccoons, like all raccoons are nocturnal animals meaning they are active during the night. In cases of sick raccoons, they will wander during the day as a clear sign something is wrong.  Attic noises when the sun has come up are usually squirrels and noises at night fall or just before sunrise are usually raccoons. Raccoons sound more like a person walking around above head opposed to squirrels quickly running back and fourth, with usual reports of squirrels sounding like they are playing or fighting and the raccoon sounding like a burglar.

• Your website says you have a guarantee. Do you guarantee that all the raccoons will be removed?

Our guarantee is on our animal exclusion work. Depending on what needs to be proofed you either receive a 5 year, 10 year or lifetime guarantee. With wildlife nothing is guaranteed, they do as they please and may leave at the sight of a trap to only come back months later. For the most part, all problem raccoons are too stubborn to leave and give adequate time to find a means of capture and removal.

•  I have a nuisance raccoon in my attic, can the hole just be sealed up?

Sealing the hole up will result in 2 things. Either the raccoon in your home will cause damage to everything in sight until tearing an exit for itself or it will dehydrate and starve to death, causing an even bigger problem of a rotting body in a hard to reach area. As shown in a video, we had a client hire a roofer to seal a raccoon hole thinking the animal was gone. Within 24 hours it came through his bedroom ceiling right onto his sleeping wife. Never seal a hole with out knowing that the nuisance raccoon is 100% gone.

• What health risks does a nuisance raccoon in my attic pose?

The health risks involved would start with the obvious physical danger of having a wild animal in your home. If a raccoon has made it down a wall or through a ceiling and meets an unsuspecting person the bite can be very severe. The rated pounds per square inch of a raccoon bite has been tested to have more pressure than a pit bull. Second would be the millions of airborne contracted raccoon round worm eggs in the fecal matter that can lie dormant for years and once ingested attack the central nervous system. Also included but not limited to, would be rabies, a disease that kills 50,000 people and 1,000,000 animals a year that has no known cure.

• Will a problem raccoon in my attic cause any damage? If so, what type of damage do they cause?

Yes. Aside from raccoon feces and the disease risks associated with it, raccoon urine can stain ceilings and cause horrible odors that not only smell unpleasant but attract other raccoons. Raccoons do chew wires and walls trying to make the space more to their likings. Also from their entry points water can enter causing water damage to the structure and mold growth.

• Can raccoons get onto roofs? What are the common spots Illinois nuisance raccoon use to gain roof access?

Yes. To some clients surprise, raccoons climb and are tree dwelling mammals. They can climb bricks with edges large enough for grip, as well as and more frequently climb down spouts, vines, wires, pillars and conduit. Tree branches must be cut back 3 feet from structures to prevent raccoons from gaining roof access.

• What do you do with the raccoons that are trapped, where do you take them?

Here are 3 raccoons trapped from an attic

By state law trapping Illinois raccoons has 3 options. They can be released, yet only on the same property within 100 yards of the capture site, surrendered to a licensed vet who also is a wildlife rehabilitator or euthanized. Some companies state they will be relocated 30 miles away which is illegal or false.

• Can a nuisance raccoon hurt my dog or cat or transfer disease? How, what type?

Yes. For our full article on how to keep your pets safe from raccoons follow this link

• I want to trap or kill a raccoon myself. Is that ok?

No. Interaction with a protected fur-bearing mammal such as a nuisance raccoon in Illinois is illegal and dangerous, as well as the possibility of just educating an animal on the workings of a trap thus leading to a harder to catch raccoon that in turn is more expensive to remove. You can legally set traps however, with out proper licensing can not move or touch the trapped raccoon and the raccoon must not be contained longer than 24 hours. Shooting raccoons on your own property in city limits is illegal however in rural areas can be taken with a hunting license or with legal raccoon trapping methods during the open hunting and trapping season.

• How can U.S. Wildlife’s 5 day Illinois raccoon control package help me financially with my raccoon problem?

Raccoons are one of the trickiest animals to catch given the intelligence level raccoons have. With the release of trapped animals or animals attempted to be caught by amateurs raccoons can become educated quickly on the workings of the common cage trap and alternate methods at times must be put into effect, these alternate methods are billed individually if needed. As well as sprung traps needing reset and re-bait, plastic servicing over entry points, traps ineffective due to rain, heat or snow, initial inspection and trap set up fees, per animal fees, non target catches and so on which can all add up and be expensive as each service trip has a service trip fee. We offer the 5 day trapping package as a convenience so you don’t have to worry about the removal price reaching an exorbitant amount, you get a one price option that covers all the necessary servicing to get rid of the nuisance Illinois raccoons.

• What all does the 5 day package include?

Initial trap set up, home inspection, alternate trap method servicing, entry point serving, inital set up, animal removal, trap re-baiting, resetting and repositioning as well.

• Can I do per animal pricing and change plans later when my fees begin to reach the package price?

No. The package pricing is offered as a convenience and must be set up on the initial visit. It can be compared to an insurance program, only for wildlife management. Just as your monthly auto insurance payment can not be paid only in the event of an accident, this can not either. The total amount for our plans are cheaper than some single animal removal rates by other companies. We competitively shop all pricing and warranties to ensure we give the best possible service at the most affordable rate and a warranty that exceeds all others by using better animal exclusion materials. Some companies may be cheaper but as all else, there is a reason they can afford to be. We do not compete on price, we compete on quality and offer discounts and packages as a client convenience.

• When the raccoons are trapped how do you know that they are all out?

All entry points are marked at the time of the first raccoon capture. If the marked entry points remain untouched or unmoved for a set time frame, it is safe to then close all entry points before any other raccoons take up residence in the unoccupied area.

• What can be done to prevent raccoon problems from happening again?

Raccoon exclusion and access preventative measures are the only thing to prevent future Illinois raccoons problems. As with any nuisance Illinois animal, once a raccoon has taken residence somewhere and is removed another raccoon will fill its void immediately from smell left behind. If this happens to be under a stoop, deck or shed a skunk or opossum may take up residence as well.

• Are there any effective raccoon repellents that will get rid of Illinois raccoons?

No, raccoon deterrents and repellents are all gimmick products. A raccoon  would much rather live in an attic filled with these gimmicks than live in the elements of nature with predators and dogs to worry about. Think you’d like to try mothballs? Think again! They don’t bother raccoons one bit and the molecules are heavier than air so the smell drops down into your living space opposed to staying contained in an attic space with the nuisance raccoons.

• You put a trap on a roof, won’t it fall off? What do you do to prevent leaks?

Our traps are screwed down to ensure they do not fall off yet are in the most effective areas to capture the raccoon that has gained entry. We go over all screw holes with a sealant that will ensure no water or moisture will cause any damage over time.

• What do you use for raccoon bait?

Illinois raccoons eat a variety of foods however raccoons in certain areas only go after certain baits so raccoon bait although versatile must be carefully planned out as well as placed and positioned to yield a captured nuisance raccoon.

• How do you know your not just trapping any Illinois raccoon passing by?

Raccoons like other animals are territorial. We place traps in areas where raccoons entering will cross paths with the trap and be caught. In these areas, any raccoons that close to the entry point or point of access are aware of the entry and must be removed. No wandering Illinois raccoon just happens to be that close with out entering or trying to take over the dwelling.

• What if there’s baby raccoons in my attic?

Raccoon babies in Illinois are born in the spring time and quickly grow into miniature versions of their parents within several weeks. If raccoon young are too young to be mobile we locate the raccoon litter and remove them by hand. If the raccoon babies are mobile they have begun to forage for food on their own and can be trapped in  the same manner as adult raccoons are trapped.

• How many babies do raccoons have?

Raccoon have 3-6 babies on average

• When do Illinois baby raccoons separate from each other?

The following spring Illinois baby raccoon litters begin to disperse. They stay together during the winter because on their own will not be able to tolerate the harsh temperatures with out the body heat of the others.  Baby raccoons have been known to return to the place of birth when adults to have their litter of young.
