How can I fix my ceiling fan?

Woke up this morning and my ceiling fan that had been on last night was off. Pulled the chain several times and found that it still works on the high speed (first pull) but does not work on the medium and low settings (second and third pulls). Any ideas on what this means and how I can fix it?

This might be a defective switch (where the chain goes in). They are cheap at Home Depot and easy to change out. Be sure to remove and take your old one to the store so you get the correct new one.
